1.The relationship between input power, output (also known as power) and loss is as follows.
Input power = Mechanical output + Loss
The units of these quantities are watts [W].
Furthermore, the definitions of input power and mechanical output are expressed using the following formulas.
Input power [W] = Voltage [V] × Current [A]
Mechanical output [W] = Speed [rad/s] × Torque [Nm]
(rad is called radian, Nm is called newton-meter)
The efficiency of a motor refers to the ratio of mechanical output to input power expressed as a percentage [%].
Some losses are due to mechanical reasons such as friction, but a larger proportion is copper loss and iron loss within the copper winding and core. The former is called copper loss, and the latter is called iron loss.
