2, Common fan specifications
1) Size

Currently, the most common types of cooling fans are 12cm and 14cm. This depends on the size of the fan slots reserved in the case. Most current cases support 12cm fans, and those supporting 14cm fans are usually backward compatible. There are also special-sized fan slots. Most standard cases have front-mounted, top-mounted, and rear-mounted fan slots. The specific number and size of cooling fans to be installed depends on the case. When purchasing a case, pay attention to the case parameters, as they will be detailedly described.

2) PWM Speed Control

PWM offers precise speed adjustment and features a 4-pin interface.

3) DC Speed Control

DC speed control is voltage-based speed regulation. It only has three levels (high, medium, and low), and uses a 3-pin interface.

Fans can be connected in series. If the motherboard interface is insufficient, or if you want a more streamlined wiring, you can purchase a hub (pay attention to the interface when buying). Usually, when buying a package of 3 fans, a hub will also be included.

3. Noise and cooling performance

In fact, the most direct requirements we have for fans are noise and cooling efficiency.

For cold sinks and radiators, if the fan of the cooling system doesn't have sufficient pressure, the air won't be blown far. Therefore, we need to choose fans with higher pressure for the cold sinks and radiators. For the case of the case, the two types of fans actually don't differ much. If we need to make a distinction, the front intake fan can choose the fan with higher pressure, while the top and rear Exhaust Fans can choose the fan with larger air volume. Noise and air volume are positively correlated. Generally speaking, the higher the rotational speed, the greater the air volume, and the louder the noise. High-end fans with reasonable blade design can reduce noise. In daily use, the most important thing is to consider the coordination of noise and air volume.
